Have you ever been in an old buildings scavenger hunt in your city? It is great fun and all you need to do is take photos of all the old buildings you see.
My city is Norwich in England, UK and I will share with you the 5 oldest buildings in it and some interesting facts about them. Which ones are the oldest ones in your city?
Norwich Castle (1068-1075)
Did you know that prisoners were trying to escape through the toilets of castles? The toilets back then were just holes in the floor, which dropped straight into the moat below.
Norwich Cathedral (1094-1096)
The Cathedral is built by limestone, which was transported by boat. The most important shape in the Norwich Cathedral is the semi-circle, because they wanted strong arches to support the building.
The Music House (1175)
The Music House is the oldest building in Norwich that was built for people to live in it! The legend says that it is haunted and scary music is heard in the middle of the night!
Cow Tower (1398)
The Cow Tower was used for soldiers to store all their weapons and spot enemies. It was considered high tech for its time as it was one of the first buildings to support gunpowder weapons.
Guildhall (1407-1413)
The Guildhall was used to house people that worked for the government, but it was also used as a court and prison. It also had a 'whispering gallery', a place were the important people could discuss without been heard by anyone else!
